Fireman Hats are fun

Who knew all the wonderful things you can do with a fireman hat? Take a look at this daring move Dax figured out. :)

Uncle Joe

Duane's Uncle Joe passed away last weekend. It was very sad. We went to the viewing and funeral in Houston. Dax was such a good boy, and a wonderful, fun distraction. During mass Dax was waving to the people behind us, and Aunt Kay and Cousin Kyle got a chuckle out of Dax "dancing" to the non-existant beat of the responsorial psalm. We especially enjoyed meeting some of Duane's relatives from Louisiana. And Dax discovered that his 2nd cousin Luke (8 years old), is a lot of fun (and very patient!). We're looking forward to the boys playing together again at Thanksgiving. Please keep Aunt Fay and her family in your prayers as they try to move forward. I guess the good thing about funerals is that you can see how much people are loved - and Joe was definitely loved. We will miss him.

Mommy's weekend

Daddy and Dax spent this past weekend together while Mommy went to Dallas to spend some time with her friend, Kateri. She got to enjoy some (much needed) quiet/down time and fun grown-up activities like pedicures and sushi. And, sleeping late! She did miss her men, though. The homecoming was very nice.

Dax is the "baby"

Dax has been interested in pictures of the family lately. He'll ask to see a picture and then he'll point to the different people. Sometimes we name them for him, sometimes, we'll ask him to point to "mamma", etc. Well, he has now started pointing to himself and then making the sign for 'baby'. It is very cute. He knows that he is the baby of the family.

Our little busybody

Dax is constantly moving. Constantly. For example, the other morning he:
-strew the newspaper all over the house,
-dumped the remote control in the dog's water bowl while I was cleaning up the newspaper
-ran out the back door when I was putting out the fire of the previously strewn newspaper that I'd set on the hot stove
-dumped a story book in the dog's water bowl while I was trying to get the smoke out of the house
-screamed when I put him in the pack & play to avert any more shenanigans
-all before 8am!

Here's a less dramatic snippet of how Dax occupies his time. Hopefully, no one will pass this along to CPS, since having the child in the dog's cage is probably frowned upon.

Fun Weekend in Houston

This past weekend, we went to visit Aunt Fay and Uncle Joe outside Houston. We hadn't seen them since Thanksgiving! Look at what a difference! We then visited the Grays. We enjoyed some pool time with the boys. Dax loved the water basketball game and watching Chance (and Shiloh, the dog) do crazy jumps into the pool. The video at the bottom shows Duane and Dax being silly - some good laughs. That's got to be the best sound in the world.

Update

Just wanted to report that Dax's tongue and tooth are healing very nicely. To be honest, you can barely tell that there was anything wrong with his tongue. It is amazing how fast it has healed. We went to the pediatric dentist on Wednesday. She was great. She doesn't think he did any damage to the root, which is good news. But, she found a hairline fracture in the tooth. If he does another face plant, sometime between now and when his permanent tooth comes in, the tooth will most likely break off. Let's see... what are the odds that an active boy will fall sometime in the next 4 years? Yeah... only about 100%. We just hope it's later rather than sooner.

Other than being a little more attached to me, this hasn't slowed Dax down one bit. In fact, on Sunday we took him out on the boat. His friend, Avery, and her parents, Jeff & Tracey, came along, too. Dax got in Lake Travis for the first time. He really enjoyed it. He didn't want to come out. After the boat ride and swimming, we bathed the kiddos (Dax's first shower with a girl - scandal!) and then ate dinner at Cafe Blue on the lake. Dax was stealing Avery's potato chips, so his mouth was definitely feeling better if he could handle crunchy, pointy, and SALTY. It was a fun day.

The only thing mom is going to miss about all this is Dax sleeping in until 6:30 in the morning. That was nice for a couple days.

Another "First"

Well, today Dax had another "first". His first trip to the ER. Luckily it all turned out fine. Dax slipped on the tile and bit his tongue pretty badly. Mom rushed him to the pediatrician, who thankfully is just up the street and around the corner. Dax had stopped bleeding (and crying) by the time we got there. While Dr. Petropoulos was checking him out, we noticed that one of his top front teeth was loose. :( She also didn't like how deep the cut on his tongue was, so she sent us to Dell Children's Hospital for a second look. The doctor at the ER was great and Dax was such a trooper. The good news is that he didn't have to get stitches. Next week we'll visit the pediatric dentist to make sure the loose tooth is ok. For the next few days Dax will be eating baby food again. For dinner tonight he had ice cream, yogurt and applesauce, so life isn't SO bad. :)
