1 Year Check-up

Today Dax had his 1 year check-up with Dr. Petropoulos. He was 18 pounds 9 ounces (4th percentile), and 30 inches tall (55th percentile). She's very nice and said that Dax looks "great" (despite a huge goose-egg on his forehead from a run-in with a bench earlier today). We can start feeding him fish and eggs and whole milk. He has a new car seat now, since he's too tall for his old one. He has to stay rear-facing for a few more months, until he's over 20 pounds, though. And, we're going to transition him to solely sippy cups (bye-bye night-time bottle). Big changes coming!

1 Year Old!

Dax had his First Birthday this weekend. On Saturday, we had a small group over for fajitas and cake. The theme of the party was "brown bear", in honor of Dax's favorite book, "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?" It was a very nice afternoon. As you can see, Dax really enjoyed his cake (he got his own special cake to dive in to). All the kids enjoyed the bubble machine, too (including Uncle Travis).

Then, on Sunday, Dax's actual birthday, we took him to the Austin Zoo. He loved looking at all the animals and riding the train. And I swear he grew taller over the weekend. I can't believe how much has changed since last June! Dax is such a joy!

I love this picture of Dax and Payton

Basketball

Cousin Chance gave Dax a basketball & goal. And, it didn't take long for Dax to figure out what to do.

First Professional Haircut

Yesterday Dax got his first professional haircut. He did pretty well. Just squirmy. He really wanted to see what she was doing. He definitely looks less like a baby and more like a little boy, now. BTW - he's discovered pull-toys and loves them!

First Word!

Dax said his first word this evening. One guess what it was..."ball". We had him on the changing table to get dressed for bed and to distract him, Duane brought over one of his bouncy balls that he likes to throw. Duane handed it to him and said, "ball". Dax looked at it, then said "ba". Then he yelled "BAA!" He proceeded to throw the ball and yell "ba!" half a dozen more times. Then when I brought out the video camera, he clammed up. Oh well.

The other trick of the day was "touchdown". When we say "touchdown" Dax raises his arms up over his head to make the touchdown signal. Every kid needs a party trick, right?

We'll post video of these asap.
